The future. That great big ambiguous idea that’s constantly on our mind. We’re excited for it, we plan for it and before we know it, all those futures we were thinking about have turned into the past and we’re preparing for the next future.
We think about the future for a lot of reasons, especially when it comes to our jobs. After all, job security is a good thing, right? Especially if it’s a job you love. You want to know you’ll still be able to do it ... in the future.
So what’s the job outlook like for travel nursing? Well, we gave it away in the title, but it’s worth repeating: It’s awesome. Here’s why.
The baby boomers are increasing demand
For starters there’s a generation known as the baby boomers. (You may have heard of them, as they’re kind of a big deal.) As they get older, they’ll need you. Factor in that there’s already a nursing shortage — you've probably heard about that as well — and the fact that Americans are living longer, more fulfilling lives than ever, and you can see why nursing will be so important to this future growth.
But will we still need travel nurses?
The answer here is emphatically yes! The demand for nurses is expected to increase by 16 percent between now and 2024, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This increased demand figures to only exacerbate the already existing shortage, and when facilities can’t find the nurses they need right in their local area, they’ll pursue travel nursing options. In other words, they’ll come looking for people like you.
Ready for an exciting future?
No one can ever truly predict the future, but we feel pretty comfortable saying nurses — particularly traveling nurses — are going to be a big part of tomorrow’s health care scene. So relax and save your planning for another subject, because when it comes to the future of travel nursing, the years ahead have never looked brighter.
